SUMMARY:Take a Ride Down Route 66
DESCRIPTION:The Warren County Historical Society invites the public to get its kicks on Route 66 during an upcoming program exploring the legendary highway from Chicago to San Bernardino. \n\n\n\nThe virtual journey\, presented by Karl Kindt\, will trace the famed road often called the “Main Street of America\,” highlighting the communities\, roadside landmarks\, and historic remnants that continue to draw travelers and history enthusiasts. \n\n\n\nRoute 66 is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026\, marking a century since the legendary highway received its numerical designation on Nov. 11\, 1926. The route became one of the nation’s best-known highways\, linking communities along a roughly 2\,400-mile stretch from Chicago to Santa Monica and helping define American road travel. Although the road was eventually replaced in many places by interstate highways\, sections of the old route remain preserved through historic districts\, museums\, vintage motels\, service stations\, and roadside attractions. \n\n\n\nKindt’s presentation will take audience members on a virtual drive along the historic route\, offering a look at what remains to enjoy today and why Route 66 continues to hold a special place in American travel history. \n\n\n\nThe free program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday\, August. 20\, at the History Museum\, 102 West Walton St.\, Warrenton. The event is hosted by the Warren County Historical Society.

DESCRIPTION:Join or die\, Benjamin Franklin’s warning to British colonies in America\, from The Pennsylvania Gazette\, ca 1754.\n\n\n\nHonoring the men and women of the American Revolution who shaped our nation with courage and sacrifice. \n\n\n\nJoin us tor this special program as we remember their legacy and celebrate our shared history. Presented by the Thomas Kennedy DAR.\n\n\n\nPart of a larger local observance of the nation’s semiquincentennial\, the display invites visitors to reflect on 250 years of American history while bringing the story of American freedom to life and underscoring the enduring ideals of liberty\, service\, and civic responsibility. According to the Warren County Historical Society’s events calendar\, the “250 Years of America Display” is on view at the museum through August\, with a special program by the Thomas Kennedy Chapter\, NSDAR planned for Thursday\, June 18 at 6:30 pm. The program\, “Voices of Courage\, Hearts of Freedom\, Men and Women of the American Revolution\,” highlights Warren County patriots and women who supported the Revolutionary cause. \n\n\n\nNationally\, the Daughters of the American Revolution is encouraging chapters and communities across the country to mark the 250th anniversary through exhibits\, educational programs and public events that bring the story of American Freedom to life. The organization describes the milestone as an opportunity to leave a lasting impact through meaningful local projects and events. \n\n\n\nThe Warren County History Museum is located at 102 W Walton St in Warrenton. Museum hours are Tuesdays 1 pm – 4 pm\, Thursdays\, 10 am – 4 pm and Fridays 10 am – 2pm. Or call the museum office 636-456-3820 to schedule a visit. Visitors can engage with the nation’s anniversary in a local\, meaningful way. While at the museum\, there is a discovery challenge for all ages. DESCRIPTION:There are two seatings available\, one at noon and another at 3pm. You can purchase tickets here online\, or\, pay by cash or check in advance at the Museum. \n\n\n\nJoin us at the Schowengerdt House\, 308 East Booneslick Road on Saturday\, March 28th for a very special Easter Tea Party. Guests are encouraged to dress up and wear their favorite Easter bonnet to celebrate the occasion in style.  \n\n\n\nA light luncheon will be served\, accompanied by a delicious dessert. The featured tea for the event is “Schowengerdt Gardens”\, a blend specially prepared for this gathering using selected ingredients from the house gardens.  \n\n\n\nCindy Trotter\, with Therapeuo Wellness and our guest speaker\, will share insights into the health benefits of various teas. Following her talk\, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the historic Schowengerdt House and appreciate its unique heritage. \n\n\n\nPlease arrive 15 minutes before the Tea start time. DESCRIPTION:U.S. Colored Troop Alfred Smith and family from the Library of Congress\, the only known photo of a USCT soldier and his family.\n\n\n\nJoin us on Thursday\, November 20 at 6:30 p.m. for a special presentation on the Historic Smith Chapel Cemetery\, now officially listed on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. \n\n\n\nHistorian Dorris Keeven-Franke\, Professor Grace Wade Moser\, her students from St. Charles Community College\, and Cemetery Restoration Professional Jerry Prouhet will share the remarkable story of how formerly enslaved men\, veterans of the U.S. Colored Troops\, founded the Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church and Cemetery in 1871. \n\n\n\nLearn how their legacy continues through ongoing preservation efforts and educational programs that bring local history to life for new generations.
